Genting Trip April 2015

20 April- 22 April 2015

My bf went Genting in March and attended its 50th anniversary dinner. He won free tickets for a two night stay in First World Hotel [superior deluxe] and a 2-way coach ride with Transtar Travel [premium]! So here we go!

I stayed over at my bf's place as our bus would be leaving Tampines at 5.30am, but I was unable to sleep the whole night. We were the first passengers to get picked up before the bus headed to other locations. The agency then called us to inform us that our seats were 5/6. Just a few moments after that, two women came up to us and said that we were sitting at their seats because they had booked the front seats. After another conversation with the agency, we were pushed to seats 21/22. But it was still okay as nobody was rude and demanding. The premium bus has adequate space for our legs and the seats can be adjusted so that we can lie down. Two bottles of mineral water were also provided for us. It was a comfortable bus ride and I slept most of the time. I have eaten some motion sickness pills beforehand just in case, as I wasn't very well the last two times I travelled in a coach. We stopped at Yong Peng for toilet and lunch break. The yong tau foo noodles not bad sia! After you order from a specific store, you have to pay at the cashier before you collect the food.

We checked in smoothly and we had a room that is facing the view outside! It is a 3 star hotel and the superior deluxe is considered quite spacious and comfortable. There is a bathtub but we didn't soak in it haha. The shower control seemed to have spoiled as the below tap runs as well, wasting a lot of water. There are two single beds, with an artistic frame painting hanging above each of them, and each bed can fit two people comfortably too. Their socket has a usb connection too and you can charge with your usb cable. Feels like Goodstay December Hotel in Jeju and Rainbow Hotel in Hong Kong, simple and filled with warmth. Oh yea, no air-con room is very awesome, very cooling!

"no shh shh-ing sign" I said haha.

Our first meal was at Hou Mei cafe, the one in the shopping centre. I was so hungry I just wanted to settle anywhere. The food is not bad but not say super nice. Sugarcane drink, ginseng tea, beef brisket noodle and herbal duck noodle. The duck meat is rather tough but the rest is okay. Walked around the place and headed back to the room for some sleeeep first.

Dinner was at Goh Tong Tea house. It was yummy! We order braised ee fu noodles, thai style fried oyster omelette and seafood crispy noodles. Their ee fu noodles is gravy-ish with mainly enoki mushroom, beansprout and kailan. I think those that I have eaten before are drier and with more of the spring onion kind of vegetable. I think I love ee fu noodles now.  The egg omelette doesn't look what we have expected but it taste good still, although rather oily.

I think we went casino on the first night, I can't remember. Bf applied for his membership card, one specifically for the slot machine, 老虎机 they call it I think. Anyway, we only know how to play that one hahaha. Bf started first and he like taking test like that, think think think then change his bet and lines each rounds. He finished his 10rm quite fast. I, on the other hand, was more pro. With the same amount, I played for a longer time. I set it at 25 lines and then just kept betting 1 lol. I kept getting the light house thing which tops up my credit again and again. When I thought I was finishing the game, suddenly I spinned some fish toss 'internal game'. So I followed the instructions, managed to gain some fish and more credits! Although in the end I lost all the money, my game was more worth it right. That night, I slept super well.

The next day, we went for their free hotel breakfast buffet at 9am with the pink meal slip. It closes at 10.30am and it is worth about S$15 per person. The variety is really little and the taste is okay. The coffee is not nice, but I drank two cups for some reason :p. The second day buffet food was also about the same. Kuey tiao change to beehoon and one side dish change to beancurd skin.

Snow World was next as we had two free tickets too! Apparently they have schedules to go in and it is for a fixed amount of time too (think 30mins). Their jacket smells of detergent, which is good news! The boots is sobs. I wore like phua chu kang boots into such a cold area without socks (cux I no extra socks)! At first, my face was feeling very cold and frozen but I got used to it. We slid down a short curvy slide one time and then it's closed -.-. It's quite a dangerous slide due to the curvature and you have to position your legs higher if not they will hit the wall at the turn. As we are not supposed to take any photos in there, a photographer was there to shoot for us. It's a really small place and has nothing much to see. I could ice skate in those boots man!

We ate lunch at Ah Yi abalone restaurant. I wanted some dimsum and there looks good. Their service is crazy. They keep filling your teacups till the point it is irritating and invading your privacy haha. Every mouth you drink, it gets filled. And like after I ticked the dimsum I wanted, I passed to my bf from the inner side of the table for him to continue, suddenly one waiter appear so fast want to take my paper. Aiyooo. Too efficient too scary. The taste of the dimsum we ordered is worse than we had expected.

The crust, if I remembered correctly, is too hard.
The porridge is too watery and kind of tasteless.
Fish dumpling is like a harder form of fishball while the charsiew bao's skin is too dry.
The siew mai is disappointing.
This is the only thing that is okay.
Thankfully, we didn't order too much. Unsatisfied, I wanted to go back to Goh Tong Teahouse to have some more dimsum. I ordered only three items as we were partially full already.

The egg tart crust is crispier, carrot cake is not bad.
Siew mai looks better and taste better too.
We took the cable car down and then up again just for fun since I have not been on it before. The down slope a bit scary leh. We took one ourselves when we came up as there were less people. The scenery is nice.

After our cable car ride, we went to have some herbal jelly. Dinner was at Macdonalds and KFC because we wanted to taste the difference. Macdonald's taste quite the same but their coke is much diluted. Similar for KFC, it's diluted pepsi and mountain dew. But KFC fried chicken is much nicer there! I don't know to explain but it is just more delicious, maybe the marination is better [but the extra bun is not nice]. I ordered a zinger rice wrap which required 10 minutes of preparation time. After 10 minutes, bf went to the counter to ask. He went a second time, and then a third time. It was still not ready!! So he told them off and said that we waited for an hour already and that is true. I don't understand why they cannot make a simple order when we already kept giving them reminders. It was a long wait but the zinger is so very tasty! It's better than the one we have in Singapore.

So the next day, I wanted to eat their zinger burger. I had reserved some space in my stomach and ate less breakfast since they buffet served about the same things. Unfortunately, they told us zinger burger required 10 minutes. Hell no am I going to let history repeats itself. We had a bus to catch back to Singapore and I don't want to risk it. We ordered one mchicken takeway from Macs instead. At this time, the bus driver called bf to ask us where we were. Apparently everybody seemed to have reached. I'm not sure whether we were told the wrong time or is everybody so freaking early. Made us looked as if we were late when we arrived earlier than the stated time. I had to unhappily eat my chicken burger on board the bus.

The return bus is not so luxurious and no water is provided. I forgot to fill my bottle too, so we left with one bottle of water to survive on lol. We stopped at a place for toilet break, a local delight store and Yong Peng for a fast meal. Reached Singapore about 7pm or so and it was raining. So glad to be back!
