Voyager of the Seas Day 2

2nd day - 11 May 2016

It's the second day! The adventure begins!

We woke up at about 9am for our favourite meal of the day at the Windjammer restaurant. Good thing about cruises is that I do not have to put my make up on before I leave for the day because I can always come back to the room. And you know how drinking coffee activates the bowels? I did not dare to drink coffee on my previous travels but on the cruise, you have access to clean toilets anywhere. You can always return to the room too! The black coffee on board was pretty decent too so I had a cup of that every day, Although Windjammer is buffet style, the service people would sometimes serve you your drinks when they are less busy. The scrambled eggs were just so so but we had their hashbrown every day. Our love for fried potato is strong.

There was a scrapbooking session at about 1pm and that is so suitable for me. It was a so-called adults scrapbooking session because the kids have their activities at the adventure club. Adventure club is like a place where teens and kids can go while parents roam the ship, especially the casino. Anyway, we got our free scrapbooking materials in which we were told we can either stay and create or just leave with our free kits. They also sell cuter versions at a price of USD 9.90. I wanted to have some hands-on there but I could not start with anything without a concrete idea of my final product o.o. We had no pictures of the cruise printed out yet too. So in the end, we did not start on anything and went for lunch instead, at Windjammer again.

It is relatively easy to eat healthily at Windjammer by choosing the right food. They are just right in front of you. But of course there were so much temptation from the carbs and the fried food too. We walked around the ship to digest our food and  went back to our room to prepare for Captain's Night.

Totally did not expect Captain's Night to be on the second night of the whole cruise! When we unpacked on the first day, bf had actually sent his two formal shirts for pressing because they were really crumpled after being packed in the luggage. Babban did inform him that Captain's Night would be on the next day but we were really wondering whether it was true because it seems too quick. Thankfully he already sent his shirt for pressing on the first day because the shirts only arrived at about 5pm on the second day. So this is a tip for all who would like such services, to send your clothings for the service on the very first day. Since you have a wardrobe in the room, you might as well do the pressing early and hang it up until you are going to wear it.

The main dining room consist of mainly large tables to accomodate about 10 people. Hence, it was no surprise that we had to share the table with other cruisers. We met two ladies, probably in their 60s, at our table. The other seats remained empty for the night. We had an appetizer and main course menu. There is always a classics section and chef's recommendation section. Classics will generally remain the same throughout the whole cruise. Our table was serviced by Parwez and his partner Rudy. Before the dinner, they would also do a recommendation of what choices we can go for.

For appetizer, I had lobster bisque while bf went for scallop with garlic herbs. The lobster bisque is too salty while the scallop taste just right, not too creamy. We ordered escargot to share and it looks almost like the scallop with the same taste. For main course, the duck is really tender and flavourful. But I left the cranberry jam looking sides untouched as they do not seem to go well together. Bf ordered steak sliders [did not take picture of it] which we thought would be good. We did not expect it to be two small burgers with steak and fries. He said it was normal, although the fries is always good. Rudy introduced him the beef tenderloin saying that the portion is really small and he would be able to finish it. I think my bf enjoyed that better but he was so so full after two main courses :p. The servers on board really want to feed us until we are fully satisfied. After our meals, they would clear our plates and provide us with another dessert menu. During our dinner, the chef and servers all gathered together and sang an Italian song for us :D. Although the staff come from all around the world, none of them who sang were Italian. Impressive. But as you can see from the picture, our view of the performance was really bad from the side, with the pole blocking our view.

Desserts, as I remembered, was really good the last time I was on Legend of the seas. As I went with the family the previous time, we could order several desserts to share and try. We only had two of us this time so we can only eat a limited amount. I cannot remember exactly the taste of each desserts because I had too much of them :P. Most of them were generally very good.

After dinner, we went to deck 5 and had free champagnes! When I went to take the drinks from the table, one Philippino crew asked me whether I am from Philippines. Few days later, another passenger asked my bf whether he is Chinese because he thinks that he is Philippino too.

People were also taking photos with the Captain. There were performances at certain time too but we missed it (only knew this after watching the cruise dvd we bought). We followed the schedule from our Cruise Compass and went to starlounge to see the Hot Seat Game. This is a never ending game where the contestant's objective is to answer trivia questions and move up each level. Once you get an answer wrongly, you pick your next contestant. This is quite lame actually because there is no prize, no winner and no conclusion. We left that for a show starring Monique, from "The Voice", at La Scala. We have actually changed out of our formal wear but we thought we needed to get dressed in the theatre, so we changed back to our formal wear again [but I don't think there is a dress code for the theatre]. We got back to our room to see a towel swan! Towel art is one of the unique features on Royal Caribbean ships.By the way, the cruise compass is like your itinerary, your timetable and your information booklet. You can find your day to day activities, opening hours, and important announcements on it. Every evening, your stateroom attendent would put a copy of the next day's cruise compass on the bed so you can do some planning on your to-go-list.

Monique's voice is powerful but our view from the side was not so good. Hence, we left before her show ended and went to Cafe Promenade for some snacks! I only ate their sandwich once because the cold cut inside is really too salty for my liking. The cookies on board were tasty with a choice of no sugar for lemon cookies.

We ended our second day feeling tired but so excited for what is to come!
