Army Stew

Today I present to you... Todamgol!

I have been there once before and it attracted me back :). That time, we also tried the ddeokbokki with noodles but the sauce is just not to my liking. We had just one army stew this time- Bu Dae Jiggae? (Can't remember too well). In English, it's actually called a vegetable stew instead of army stew in the menu.

I must say that we were quite lucky to get seats since we did not make any reservations. The waiter told us that their tables were full and we had to wait one hour at least. Actually there were many empty tables but they should be all booked by others. After a minute of discussion, we went in again, wanting to tell them we were willing to wait and wanted to reserve the first table available. To our surprise, another waiter led us in immediately to this room with two tables inside. We did'nt quite understand and thought they might have mistaken us for having reserved a table. I think they decided to open up two tables specially for walk in customers like us :).

Sikhye (Sweet rice drink)-$3.50

This is the sweet rice drink from Korea! The can ones are quite sweet though, so drinking it with ice would be a better choice.

Side dishes

Here are the 5 different sides for the day. It's a pity there is no fish cake for the day. I miss those Korean fish cakes. The kimchi there is really authentic. The yellow shreds are potato with onions. They taste like the cai-fan potato dish somehow. The green shreds are the seaweed you see on Japanese sushi. The white dish looks like the corals we eat in desserts. It can also be comparable to the texture of "tadpoles". And the last one is marinated cucumbers.

They provide free-flow cold green tea too. In a flask, self service, just like in Korea.

We sat side by side because the opposite side is too squeezy. And we would have blocked the waiter from serving the table left to us.

Stewww- $38

This stew has a lot of vegetables, as in the quantity. Mainly the kimchi type. It also consists of fresh mushrooms (Yes yes), luncheon meat, sausages, tofu, baked beans and myeon. If you add extra noodles, it is like $5! So please consider again if you think instant noodles are not worth the price.

We became smart already this time. After the soup boiled and cooked everything in the pot, we lowered the fire to the minimum so we had alot of soup left. I know this sounds very common sense but we totally forgot to do this the last time, and our soup evaporated fast. Anyway, this army stew is very shiokkkk. The spice level is just nice and the noodle is perfect for the soup base. You can tell the shop's popularity because if no reservations were made, you will need to wait for your turn.

Remember to call first!

I stayed over at Bf's house that day. Totally enjoyed playing Battleblock Theater with him, especially when I can box "him" and sabo "him" in the game. I think this is a good game for couples because it's so cute. And you need cooperation to finish the levels. Buy from Steam.

Throwback to my birthday.
It was supposedly a kite flying day but it rained heavily! ;(
Nevermind, we went Marina Square to play pool instead. It's been long. So enjoyable. And we played this, competitively :P. I never won once leh.

Dinner was at SeoulYummy.
We went for the army stew and it comes in a set. You get an appetizer side and a dessert at a price of $49++. Added $1.90 each to upgrade our drinks to ice lemon tea with aiyu. Their sides comes in really small servings. We asked for more kimchi and peanut twice, before they gave us a bigger portion.

Fish pancake

Fish pancake is just fried dory fish with egg. I thought it would be more special, was looking forward to fishcake style instead.

The army stew took ages to boil! We had to ask the staff to change our stove before the fire grew large enough to heat up our food. Actually, it was the lack of gas in the cylinder but they just changed the whole stove for convenience. By the time, our noodle was already soaked too long and the meat became overcooked. Big no to having real meat in army stew because they cannot withstand the long duration of cooking (turns tough). The soupbase is mehhhh. And we did'nt feel full after we were done eating.

And here is the best thing of the meal- Special Trio Bingsoo! This is really good because the yoghurt ice cream is not very soft. It has a sour sweet taste that is very refreshing. The strawberry is freaking sour though. There are green and red jelly like stuff to go with the flavored ice at the bottom. Nata de coco is also present. We took more time to finish this as compared to the stew! Yummilicious.

I got a present that was found in a kid's store. I love it. I love you.
